Commentary: | Robert Lee Kincaid, President of Lincoln Memorial University, Harrowgate, Tennessee, saw the painting while on a fundraising trip to Chicago or Indianapolis in the 1940’s. Because he liked the painting and could not afford it, a Lincoln Memorial University donor gifted it to him and it has remained in his family. A family picture is taken with it every Christmas. The painting was evacuated from Pauley’s Island, South Carolina when Hurricane Hugo struck in 1989 and later returned. (owner family history) | |
