Commentary: | Schoonover’s day books indicate that his wife Martha modeled for this illustration.
The original painting was partially overpainted by the artist. Because the altered image was not listed by the artist in his Daybooks, the number M8 was assigned to it. This painting was not identified with a daybook number when the Catalogue Raisonné was published. Since that time, further research has determined that the original work was altered to create the landscape listed as M8. See #1570alt. |
