| Commentary: | This charcoal drawing is the left side of #2035 and was cut down by the artist on Jun 8, 1938. On Dec. 20, 2008, it was put on eBay for sale and the following history was written by the seller’s father.
“My daughter purchased this original charcoal portrait by Schoonover at a church yard sale in Stafford County, VA around 25 years ago. She recently found the portrait in a closet. Doing some research she found that Schoonover was one of America’s top illustrators in the mid 20th century and that his works have been sold for rather substantial sums. / At the time she purchased the portrait, she remembers the seller, a retired U.S. Army Officer, mentioning that he was told the portrait was of a famous American writer, but he couldn’t remember who it was.” The drawing was sold on eBay. |
