| Commentary: | This painting depicts the landing of the Swedes at Fort Christina in 1638 in Wilmington, Delaware. The two ships in the painting are the Kalmar Nyckel and the Vogel Grip. Schoonover notes in his day books that he made this painting for the ‘post office competition.’ No other reference has been found regarding this competition. | |
