Commentary: | Originally this painting was commissioned by Mr. and Mrs. Rothenseis as a mantel decoration. It was because of their special request that Schoonover put Ferris Terry’s farm in the painting down in the river valley which was some distance from its actual location. Another version of this scene, probably earlier, was painted and then cut into two paintings, #2245a and #2245b. |
