Commentary: | The Little Bushkill River ran behind the Schoonover’s summer house in Bushkill, Pennsylvania. Although the water was quite shallow, it could be maneuvered by Schoonover’s canoe, as seen in the painting. The river also offered trout for fishing. Because there are publishers markings en verso, it is thought that this landscape is painted over an illustration. For further commentary, see #2148. |
