Commentary: | Before the Delaware Memorial Bridge was built to connect southern New Jersey with Delaware at New Castle, the New Castle ferry transported cars and people across the Delaware River. Schoonover rendered several watercolor easel paintings from various points along the Delaware side of the river. Though signed ‘1911’ this work was in all likelihood painted in 1951, the year of the last ferry ride across the river. | |
