| Commentary: | Schoonover painted five versions of this tranquil scene along the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River near Bushkill. At this spot down the hill from Bushkill, the rough dirt roadway led down to the landing where the river was shallow and rocky, precluding the use of larger boats. The Schoonovers had a rowboat and a canoe, both of which they launched here. The mountain seen across the river is known as ‘The Barrier Mountain.’ (archives) The others in the series are #’s 2473, 2481s, 2481, and 2489. |
